Routine comprehensive eye exams

  • We know how important vision and eye health are to the quality of your life.  There is a common misconception that you only need an eye exam when you feel your vision is worsening, but that’s not true. Having your eyes checked regularly is the best way to look after your vision and eye health.
  • For an average adult, once every 12 to 24 months is sufficient. If you have systemic and other ocular conditions, you may require eye exams more frequently.
  • Early detection and prevention are key in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Please ask our optometrists which frequency is appropriate for you.

Infant and child eye exams

  • BC medical services plan covers regular eye exams once a year for children under the age of 19. BC healthcare recommends eye exams starting at 6 months of age.
  • Kids don’t know what the world is supposed to look like and what they see is the only world they know. It is important to catch any issues in their visual system to ensure they have the best chance at school and to correct any imbalances between the eyes earlier during their developing years.

Senior eye exams

  • We recommend senior citizens to have annual eye exams since there is an increased risk of certain eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and dry eyes. BC medical services plan covers a portion of the eye exam once a year for ages 65 and over.
  • Some diseases develop slowly without pain or vision loss in the beginning.  Early detection of these eye conditions can reduce the risk of further harm to your vision and allow prompt referral and proper treatment.

Patient education

  • We all know that it is a doctor’s responsibility to diagnose and treat disease, but it is equally important for doctors to educate patients on their conditions so that they can make informed decisions on their health care.
  • Here at Aldergrove Optometry, our doctors are dedicated to providing the most up-to-date information to patients and taking their time to explain to make sure patients understand their diagnoses, treatments, prognoses, and choices.

Co-management with Family Doctors and Ophthalmologists

  • Diabetic eye exams: We can help manage diabetes by monitoring for any signs of diabetic retinopathy or diabetic macular edema and send regular reports to the family physician that is managing the diabetes.
  • Laser eye surgery: Find out if you’re a potential candidate for laser eye surgery such as LASIK and PRK.  The consultation includes a comprehensive eye exam to verify your most current prescription and eye health. It is an opportunity to ask all the questions you have about this life changing procedure.

Professional application forms

  • We are equipped for testings necessary for driver’s license renewal, police and RCMP applications.
